Senior Shift
Lab kicked off celebrations for our first ever graduating class last week with the Senior Shift parade. Students from all grade levels participated in a send-off for our Class of 2024 as they walked through the building in their caps and gowns. Younger students were able to join the parade as they shifted up to their own rising grade pod.
Durham Charter Orchestra
Charlotte Lab School was selected as a destination for the Durham Charter School Orchestra summer tour. This group of talented students performed songs for our 1st and 5th grade classes on Wednesday afternoon. Many other classes and staff members were able to stop by the common space to enjoy the presentation.

Athletics Banquet
Lab recognized our student athletes at the second annual Lab Athletics Banquet. Athletes and their families came together at Griffith Hall to celebrate with their coaches and school leaders. Outstanding athletes in each sport were awarded with Impact, Evolution, and Leadership awards. A special congratulations to those students who received the Lion’s Pride Award for outstanding sportsmanship. We are so excited to keep this tradition going for our athletics programs.
NC STEM EXPLORERS
Charlotte Lab and teachers were recently featured on the PBS show, North Carolina STEM Explorers. Check out this episode featuring 5th grade teacher, Mr. Faiella discussing respiratory and circulatory systems.
Middle School Beginners Day
Lab hosted a beginners day event for newly admitted students in rising grades 5-8. The event included a tour of our campus and an introduction to The Lab Way. These future Lab students and their caregivers participated in a scavenger hunt in the outside area of our campus, which gave them a chance to tour the flex spaces, Bryant Park, and to meet our Mascot, Maverick!
8th Grade Sneaker Ball
Thanks to Ms. Moser and staff volunteers, our 8th graders kicked-off their end of Middle School celebrations with a glamorous semi-formal Sneaker Ball dance last week. Students enjoyed snacks, music, photos with friends, and views of a beautiful sunset over the Charlotte city skyline from the 2nd floor atrium. Visit Ms. Moser’s Instagram for photos from the event!

Senior Journeys
Lab celebrated our graduating seniors with a wall decorated with photos of the class and their future, post-high school plans. Seniors and other members of the Lab community had an opportunity to visit the wall to read about their classmates’ journeys. Seniors also received a commemorative Class of 2024 tee shirt and graduation tickets for their families and guests!
Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week
The Lab PTSO went above and beyond to treat staff during this Teacher Appreciation week. Each day, staff members were surprised with meals, treats, or refreshments celebrating their dedication to our students and school community. Thank you to the PTSO and all involved for making this a successful week.
Beginners’ Day
Lab hosted a beginners' day event for newly admitted students in rising grades 1-4, which included a tour of our campus and an introduction to The Lab Way. These future Lab students were able to enjoy activities, a trip down the slide, and a visit from our mascot, Maverick the Lion - who also said hello to some of our current students.
Middle School Quest
Ms. Gregory’s 6th grade Quest class is collecting items for a dog rescue organization. Please see a note from the students HERE and send any items in by May 17.

Middle School Dance
Thank you to the Lab PTSO and staff volunteers who put on an amazing dance party for our 5th-8th grade students. The students had a blast dancing under the glow lights, snapping selfies and photo booth pictures, and enjoying fun times with friends.
Lab Athletics
HS Track finished their season with many student-athletes setting Personal Records! Middle School Flag Football is in the Conference Tournament semi-finals today and will head to the championship on Monday if they win. Middle School Track goes to the Championship Meet next Wednesday. We are so excited to celebrate our Lab Athletes on May 15 at the Athletics Banquet.
Careers on Wheels
Thanks to Ms. A. Jackson for organizing our second careers on wheels event for Lower School grades. Students had a fantastic time climbing aboard and exploring various trucks parked in our lot. A huge shoutout to our participants with Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte Water, Carolina Power, Mecklenburg County Health Department, and Classy Canine Clips for visiting our school today!

Celebrate the Arts at Lab
The Lab community went all out to celebrate the arts. The week included a daytime revue of our spring musical presented to younger students, and our first Celebrate the Arts evening showcase presented by Lab's music, choir, and art programs. We are so proud of our students who performed and exhibited their art works. Thank you to Ms. Gardner, Ms. Funk, Ms. Wright, Ms. Brittain + our staff volunteers for producing a wonderful event.

Prom
A fun and fabulous time was had by all (including the chaperones) at last weekend’s Lab Prom for 11th + 12th grades. Students enjoyed a view of the Charlotte skyline at the SpringHill Suites - Uptown. They had an amazing time dancing, enjoying a delicious dinner, taking photos, and spending time with friends. It was truly a memorable event!

Spring Musical
The reviews are in! The Lab spring musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown was a huge success. Congratulations to our students who put on a 5-star hit show last weekend.
Lab Chess Team
Congratulations to the Lab Chess Team for placing 3rd (out of 22 schools!) in last weekend’s Unrated Team Challenge. The tournament is equivalent to a JV "city championship".
Lab Student and Academic All-American
Evan Alsop, a senior at Charlotte Lab School, received an Academic All-American award from USA Gymnastics at the Men’s Southeast Championship on April 13th. This award recognizes and rewards academic achievement in young gymnasts. As a level 10 gymnast, Evan spends 20+ hours per week in the gym and he credits the support of Charlotte Lab School as a huge factor in his success. Evan will be competing at the USA Gymnastics Men’s National Championship in May. Congratulations!
Lab Athletics
GO LAB LIONS! Lab Flag Football teams are currently undefeated. Playoffs will take place on April 29 - more information coming soon. Lab track teams (both middle and high) continue to set Personal Records at their meets.
Step Afrika Performance
A huge THANK YOU to our friends at Blumenthal Performing Arts. We were so excited that they generously offered to provide our students with a workshop from Step Afrika. The dancers led a fun, energetic, and interactive class with Lab 5th + 6th grade dance and PE students earlier this week.
Kindergarten Field Trip
Lab Kindergarten classes enjoyed a fun day at the farm. Here are some fun memories from their experience.
Third Grade Fraction Pizza
Third grade students completed a fraction pizza project to apply fractions to a real world experience. Students created a pizza recipe and completed a variety of activities to help reinforce all of their fraction knowledge. Lab partnered with Hawthorne’s pizza to bring their pizza recipes to life...and to the table!

Toast to Lab
